7th Tradition

How do we support OA financially?

According to our Seventh Tradition, we are self-supporting through our own contributions.  Our Seventh Tradition also reminds us of the importance of supporting our Fellowship as a whole.

At in-person meetings, members will “pass the basket”. Donations are collected by each group’s treasurer to pay group expenses, and the rest is donated to the various service organizations that support the individual groups, including Intergroup, Region, and World Service.

For a phone and online meetings, often the expenses are not as great as for an in-person meeting. However our service organizations still need our support to help carry the message to other compulsive overeaters.  We thus encourage all OA members to give as much as they are able to help our group be self-supporting. The suggested contribution is US $5.00 or more. However, never stay away from a meeting for financial reasons. Give what you can when you can.
